Texas is enriched by the artists who call the state home — creators who use their skills to connect Texans with diverse perspectives and to say something meaningful about their communities, our society and more.

Join The Texas Tribune in El Paso or online at 4 p.m. MT on Wednesday, April 10, for “We the Texans: Art and Democracy,” the next event in our yearlong “We the Texans” initiative examining the state of democracy in Texas. At the El Paso Museum of Art, The Texas Tribune will talk with artists who work in various mediums about why they are inspired to create and how they see their role in driving dialogue, activism and change.

Featured artists include:

  1. ● Camila Abbud, artist featured in El Paso Museum of Art’s 2024 Border Biennial / Bienal Fronteriza 2024
  2. ● Lupe Mendez, Texas poet laureate 2022-2023

After the event, attendees are invited to view the 2024 Border Biennial / Bienal Fronteriza 2024 exhibition at the museum. Admission is free, and the museum closes at 6 p.m. MT.
