The first episode of writer-producer Julian Nunez’s series about the dangers faced by migrants trying to cross into the United States from Mexico has been racking up awards from coast to coast. A film by Nunez, who is based in El Paso, won a national competition sponsored by Canela Media and AudioPop that led to Entre Fronteras (Between Borders), a three-part series featured on the Spanish-language streamer Canela. The Plaza Classic Film Festival will show the first episode, which was shot in and around El Paso with a creative team led by graduates of New Mexico State University’s Creative Media Institute. In this episode, a group of migrants faces human traffickers, Border Patrol, and other obstacles as they try to cross the border in search of better lives.
