At this extraordinary moment for El Paso/Juárez, join the El Paso Museum of Art for a two-day convening in the densest Borderplex along the U.S./Mexico border. Together we will examine the past, present, and future of our creative communities, and celebrate the closing of the 5th Transborder Biennial. Events take place in El Paso and Juárez and will include:

  • Talks by artists, journalists, and politicians
  • Guided visits to Juarez’s museums and historic sites
  • Private tour of biennial with curators
  • Guided biking excursion to El Paso’s murals
  • Live border-stories event

Events introduce those unfamiliar to key places and people, and prompt fronterizos to look anew at our terrain. Through the convening we will explore what makes esta frontera—one defined for many by crossing, cultural and linguistic hybridity, and rasquache approaches to life and art—both like other border zones, and also distinctly El Chuco.*

*El Chuco is El Paso’s nickname. It comes from the term Pachuco/Pachuca, which is thought to have originated in the area in the 1940s in reference to Mexican-American men and women who wore zoot suits.
